MURRAY'S ON THE STREAM FLY FISHING SCHOOLS
Harry will offer 19 schools in 1997. He has a broad assortment of Scott, Winston, Sage, Loomis, and Orvis outfits for you to use free of charge in these schools. These range from delicate 2 weight rods and Murray's Mountain Trout Rod for trout to the powerful new graphite 8 weight rods for bass. (I strongly recommend trying these various rods in order to find the one that suits your specific needs and casting style before purchasing a new rod.) Almost the entire time in these schools is spent on the stream fishing, so even beginners come away with a thorough understanding of the art of fly angling. These schools will enable you to see what tackle performs best with each type angling and thus will save you money spent on totally inappropriate tackle. The Smallmouth Bass Schools are conducted from my shop in Edinburg and will be held on either the North or South Fork of the Shenandoah River. I cover casting, selecting tackle, leader demands and techniques for fishing nymphs, streamers and surface bugs. The Mountain Trout Schools are held on the Rapidan River and cover casting, entomology, reading the water, proper fly selection, and how to fish drys, nymphs, and streamers for trout. Many of the fine points covered in my book, "Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park", are covered in detail in these schools. The Spring Creek Schools will be conducted on Mossy Creek. We go deeper into aquatic entomology in these schools as well as covering the important terrestrial insects. Reading the water is an important part of this school. I cover techniques for fishing drys, nymphs, and streamers which are effective on the Pennsyslvania limestone streams and the Montana spring creeks as well as here in Virginia. The cost of these schools are $295.00 per student for the two day trout schools, $275.00 for the bass schools and $150.00 for the Mossy Creek schools. All two day schools are held on Saturday and Sunday except those marked with an *. I teach all of these classes myself and restrict the class size in order to provide the maximum time with each student. Space is reserved on a first come first served basis.
