Fly Fishing Glossary
BASIC FLY FISHING EQUIPMENT
- ROD
- for casting out line, varies between 6 1/2 to 15 feet
and is made of graphite, cane, or fiberglass
- REEL
- holds a certain amount of line depending on the line's
weight ant taper
- LINE
- its weight carries the fly to its destination, there are
various weights and tapers for different circumstances
- LEADER
- attaches fly line to tippet material, size depends on
sensitivity and size of fish to be caught
- WADERS
- covers feet, legs, and sometimes chest, used to stay
warm and dry in the water
- VEST
- stores fishing gadgets in accessible pockets
- GLASSES
- "polarized" to see under the water without glare
- FLY BOXES
- holds flies
- MISC. GADGETS
- wading nets, strike indicators, floatant, lead
shots...
